Special Needs

Resources for Visitors with Special Needs
All of us at the Dallas Museum of Art want to help you make the most of your visit. If you have any special needs, please call Visitor Services at 214-922-1803 during Museum hours.

All of the Museum’s public galleries are accessible to wheelchair users and other visitors who cannot use stairs. Wheelchairs are available on a first-come, first-served basis. All of the Museum entrances and restrooms are ADA compatible. We recommend dropping off and picking up visitors with special needs at the Main Entrance (north side of the Museum).

If you are hearing impaired, the Museum offers amplified hearing aids for lectures and other programs. These can be picked up at the Visitor Services Desk. Please call in advance so that we can ensure availability.

If needed, companion service dogs are allowed in the Museum.

Tips for a Fun Family Visit

Take It Slow!
Don’t try to do too much with young children in a single visit. Looking at two or three works of art can make for an entertaining and enriching experience. For ideas on what to see, ask at the Visitor Services Desk or see the helpful folks in the Gateway Gallery family area.

Strollers, Backpacks, and Diaper Bags
Strollers are welcome in the Museum; however, if galleries are very crowded, you might be asked to wait until more space is available. You may bring a diaper bag and frontal carrier into the Museum. For safety reasons, backpacks are not permitted. Backpacks and other large carriers may be left at the Museum’s Coat Check, located just under the stairs near the Main Entrance.

Need a Restroom?
All of the restrooms in the Museum are equipped with diaper-changing stations.
Nursing mothers are welcome to use the Family Library in the Gateway Gallery.

Hungry?
The Museum’s Atrium Cafe serves kid-friendly food Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday 11:00 a.m.–2:00 p.m. (beverage service until 3:00 p.m.), Thursday 11:00 a.m.–8:00 p.m., Saturday and Sunday 11:00 a.m.–2:00 p.m. (beverage service until 4:00 p.m.). High chairs are available.

Need to Take a Break?
If your kids need to unwind, the Gateway Gallery family area is a kid-friendly space with plenty to do. The Museum’s Sculpture Garden is also a great place for kids to play, but be careful not to touch the works of art so that their beauty will be preserved for everyone.

Museum Store
The Museum Store carries award-winning children’s books, art activities, and other fun items related to the collections. Hours are Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday 11:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m., Thursday 11:00 a.m.–9:00 p.m.
