Young Masters

This annual juried exhibition is funded by the O'Donnell Foundation. The exhibition showcases the talent of local high school students in Advanced Placement art classes.
 

Spring Break 

Tuesday, March 16-Friday, March 19, 11:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m.
Celebrate spring break at the Dallas Museum of Art with art-making activities in the Art Studio, story time, green screen technology, and more. Enjoy family story time in Arturo's Nest, take a trip through the galleries on a family tour, and watch a family film. 

 

Autism Awareness Day Family Celebration

April 3, 9:00–11:00 a.m.

April is National Autism Awareness Month, and the Dallas Museum of Art would like to invite you to enjoy a special free Family Celebration designed just for children on the Autism Spectrum and their families. Pre-registered families can visit the Museum for free and enjoy the Museum’s Center for Creative Connections before the Museum opens to the public.

The Center for Creative Connections will be available for parents and children to play and enjoy art together in a fun environment. Participate in staff-led gallery experiences, experience storytelling, create a work of art in the Studio, and in the Tech Lab, listen to Soundscapes inspired by works of art in the collection. Families will have the opportunity to explore the interactives in the Center for Creative Connections during this special private event and are also invited to stay when the Museum opens at 11:00 a.m. to enjoy additional family programming.

Sor Juana Family Celebration: A Celebration of Women in the Arts

Sunday, April 11, 11:00 a.m.-3:30 p.m, Free

Enjoy a wide variety of culturally themed arts activities for all ages including a family film, a theater performance of Sor Juana for families by Frida Espinosa Müller, a Collection Connection featuring the ancient Maya work Lady Bolon K’an, sketching in the galleries, and films from the Dallas Film Society’s 2010 DALLAS International Film Festival. A special guest performance by Mariachi Rosas Divinas, the first female mariachi group, will be a highlight of the event.


 Family Audio Tour

Join Arturo, the Museum’s family mascot, for an interactive Family Audio Tour.

Three fun-filled tours are available for ages 5–11 at the Visitor Services Desk at no charge.

 Just for 2-4 year olds! We'll investigate materials artists use and then look at a work of art in the galleries.
 
Yoga for Kids!
6:30–7:00 p.m. 
Join Arturo and our resident yogini, Michelle Mock, for meditation, relaxation, and some very pretzel-like poses!
 
Bedtime Stories with Arturo
7:30 p.m. 
Kids, wear your pajamas and bring your pillows to hear Bedtime Stories with Arturo, told by our award-winning storyteller, Ann Marie Newman.

Studio Creations

Saturdays and Sundays, 1:00–3:30 p.m., Art Studio
Discover a new art-making activity each month! Join us in the studio, where volunteers are on hand to help your family make unique art projects. All materials are provided.

March 6-28: Visit the Museum's collections and search for hats using a gallery scavenger hunt. Think about the different materials and designs each artist used and then come to the studio to create your own hat.

April 3-25: Explore The Lens of Impressionism and think about the connection between painting and photography before creating your own work of art inspired by photographs in the studio. 

        Sketching in the Galleries for Kids

Every third Saturday with some exceptions, 1:00–3:00 p.m.
Families are invited to sketch from original works of art. All supplies are provided.

March 20: Arts of the Americas, Level 4

April 17: European Painting and Sculpture, Level 2

         Collection Connections

Sundays, 1:30–3:30 p.m.
Take an in-depth look at a different work of art each month. A trained volunteer will be in the galleries with engaging materials for all ages.

March 6-28: I Can Fly, Part V: Kids and Women Artists in Their Studios (28 min., all ages)
Every day more and more American women gain recognition as famous artists. Here are six prominent American women artists—Faith Ringgold, Jackie Winsor, Flo Oy Wong, Grandma Moses, Jennifer Bartlett, and Elizabeth Catlett—doing what they are most passionate about—expressing themselves by making art. We visit these six women working in their studios, exploring and challenging their feelings about themselves, their families, their medium, and their art.
 
April 3-25: Claude Monet (Getting to Know the World's Greatest Artists) (22 min.)
Claude Monet and his French impressionist "pals" are brought to life in this entertaining animated video. Kids can have fun learning about Monet's life and paintings through a playful combination of great art and delightful, off-the-wall cartoons.
 
These films are presented by the Robert J. O’Donnell Film Series Endowment Fund.
