Dallas Museum of Art Announces Texas Instruments as the New Sponsor for Popular Thursday Night Live Program —Texas Instruments Celebrates 50 Years of Support to the DMA— DALLAS, April 13, 2009 — The Dallas Museum of Art announced today that Dallas-based global semiconductor company Texas Instruments (TI), will celebrate their 50 years of support to the Museum by becoming the new title sponsor for the “Thursday Night Live” series. TI’s involvement will help continue the increasingly popular series of weekly concerts, sketching in the galleries, and other art activities that are available to the general public at no cost. Visitors are also welcome to enjoy a free audio tour of the collections. The programs run from 5 to 9 p.m. every Thursday night. In addition to enjoying live jazz concerts, visitors can also improve their drawing abilities with direct instruction from professional and practicing artists, such as artists Lesli Robertson in April, Joshua Smith in May and Rebecca Carter in June. Participants at all levels of experience are welcome to bring pencils and sketchbooks. The Thursday night events regularly welcome over 1,500 visitors each evening and in the last year have hosted over 75,000 visitors. “This is a wonderful opportunity for the entire Dallas community, including TI’s employees, retirees and their families, to experience all the DMA offers,” said Trisha Cunningham, TI’s worldwide corporate citizenship director. “And they can enjoy the art, music and activities free of charge in the vibrant setting in the downtown Arts District. TI is excited to sponsor this quality cultural experience that’s for everyone.” From 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. on Thursdays, guests can also take part in Thursday Night Specials, new programs in the Center for Creative Connections with fresh experiences each week, including “Make It/Take It,” “Tech Lab,” “See Creatively: See 3” and “Material of the Month: Uncovered.”
“The Dallas Museum of Art greatly appreciates TI’s generous support over the last 50 years, which has helped provide continuing education and entertainment in the form of art and music to the community,” said Bonnie Pitman, The Eugene McDermott Director of the DMA. “Now, with their sponsorship of “Thursday Night Live”, the DMA will continue offering an entertaining environment for area families and art and jazz enthusiasts to enjoy each week.” TI and the TI Foundation have given to the DMA in a variety of ways. Most recently, they provided sponsorship for the Director’s Dinner at the opening of the exhibition Tutankhamun and the Golden Age of the Pharaohs. TI has supported exhibitions such as J. M. W. Turner, Lords of Creation: The Origins of Sacred Maya Kingship and Splendors of China's Forbidden City, and the TI Foundation funded the Center for Creative Connections Technology Lab and Arts Network. “Thursday Night Live” has been presented at the DMA for over 25 years.
