at the Dallas Museum of Art

In conjunction with the important international exhibition Masterworks of French Painting, “Bonjour, Monsieur Courbet!”: The Bruyas Collection of the Musée Fabre, Montpellier, the Dallas Museum of Art presents a two-part installation, Before Impressionism: French 19th-Century Art at the Dallas Museum of Art, featuring masterworks from the permanent collection that complement the taste and times of collector Alfred Bruyas. The exhibition will include paintings, works on paper, and sculptures by Barye, Bracquemond, Chassériau, Courbet, Corot, Daubigny, Delacroix, Manet, Millet, and Rousseau. Styles represented range from romanticism to the Barbizon school to modernism. The exhibition will also address the history, taste, and attitude of artists, critics, and collectors in mid-19th-century France.
