New ReleasesSummer is a great time to go to the movies, and there are a lot of big pictures scheduled for release between June and August. Here are some of the big titles and some ideas of how works in the Museum’s collections connect to the movies! 
Angels & Demons Opening: May 15 Stars: Tom Hanks & Ewan McGregor, Directed by Ron Howard Art Connection: See the movie, and then find a work in our collection that represents the four elements (Earth, Air, Fire, Water) that are a theme of both the book by Dan Brown and the movie. The mural Genesis by Miguel Covarrubias outside the Museum near the main entrance. 
Star TrekOpening: May 8 Stars: Christopher Pine & Zachary Qinto, Directed by J.J. Abrams Art Connections: See the movie, and then find a work in our collection that shows a man reaching for the stars, maybe thinking about someday visiting one of them. Hint: Look for this work by Rufino Tamayo on Level 1. 
My Life In RuinsOpening: June 5 Stars: Nia Vardalos & Richard Dreyfus, Directed by Donald Petrie Art Connections: See the movie, and then come to the Museum and view the Ancient Greek and Roman collections on Level 2. You don’t have to go to Greece to take this tour! 
Ice Age: Dawn of the DinosaursOpening: July 1 Stars: voice cast of Ray Romano, John Leguizamo, Denis Leary, & Queen Latifah; Directed by Carlos Saldanha Art Connections: See the movie and then come to the Museum as a family to see the masterwork The Icebergs by Frederic Church on Level 4. Stay and visit the Center for Creative Connections for a memorable, interactive art experience. 
(500) Days of SummerOpening: July 17 Stars: Zooey Dashanel and Joseph Gordon-Levitt; Directed by Marc Webb Art Connections: Tom, the main character, is an architect. See the movie and then visit the Museum to see the wonderful Frank Lloyd Wright windows which hang just outside the Museum’s restaurant, Seventeen Seventeen, on Level 2 near the Ross Avenue entry. 
Julie & JuliaOpening: August 7 Stars: Meryl Streep, Amy Adams, and Stanley Tucci; Directed by Nora Ephron Art Connections: Meryl Streep is Julia Child and Amy Adams is Julie Powell in writer-director Nora Ephron’s adaptation of two bestselling memoirs: Powell’s Julie & Julia and My Life in France by Julia Child with Alex Prud’homme. See the movie, read the books, and then come to an Arts & Letters Live event at the Museum. Tour the collections and see several works that use food as a main subject, including Paul Cezanne’s Still Life with Apples on a Sideboard on view in the Wendy and Emery Reves Collection on Level 3.
